Former President Donald Trump pledged to jump-start the auto industry during a speech in Detroit on Thursday as he bragged about gaining ground in Michigan in recent polls.
In a lengthy speech at the Economic Club of Detroit, the GOP presidential nominee painted himself as the best candidate for the auto industry, a major economic engine in the swing state that could be pivotal in November’s presidential election.
“In Detroit, this place will be booming,” Trump said. “Our car industry will have a renaissance the likes of which we have never seen before in this country — we have never seen since the golden years.”
Trump promised to make interest on car loans fully tax deductible, which he said would “stimulate massive domestic auto production and make car ownership dramatically more affordable for millions and millions of working American families.”
