Trump vows he’ll cut regs to build housing on federal land

The comments in a speech in New York on Thursday were the former president’s latest on opening public land to housing construction.

Former President Donald Trump promised Thursday he would cut regulations and establish low-tax zones across federal lands to promote construction of housing.

Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, made the pledge during a speech Thursday at the Economic Club of New York that focused on his economic vision for the nation.

The use of federal lands for new housing is something both Trump and the Biden administration have supported, although what each envisions at a large scale is unclear. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, has made affordable housing — including by generally boosting housing construction — a key plank in her agenda.

Without providing any details, Trump appeared to support a broad rollback of regulations designed to open more federal lands for housing.
