Former President Donald Trump is promising to revive a key mining region in Minnesota where the Biden administration has blocked activity to the dismay of Republicans.
Trump during a GOP fundraising event Friday vowed to “rescue the Iron Range,” a sprawling iron-ore mining district around Lake Superior and recalled how miners in the past thanked him for boosting jobs in the area.
“I was here, and miners and people were coming up to me and they had tears in their eyes — ‘thank you, sir, for giving us our livelihood back,’” Trump said at the Lincoln Reagan Dinner, a GOP fundraising event in St. Paul.
The Biden administration in recent years moved to undo a number of Trump-era approvals tied to mining and made other policy changes that could hurt the mineral sector in Minnesota, despite growing demand for minerals like nickel and copper to feed electric vehicle, transmission and renewable energy technology.
