The new 25 percent duty will go into effect July 22.

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative is pressing ahead with a proposed 25 percent tariff on Brazilian exports, it announced Wednesday, but will exempt many key goods from the country.

The duties are set to go into effect July 22.

The agency has been investigating Brazilian trade practices under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, including those related to digital trade and e-payments, deforestation, corruption, intellectual property protection, tariffs, and ethanol market access.

A preliminary report published in early June recommended 25 percent tariffs on a swathe of Brazilian exports, with sweeping carve-outs for goods as far-ranging as beef, certain coffee products, vaccines, minerals, fertilizers and auto parts. USTR collected public feedback before publishing its final recommendations.
