Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said Friday she’s moving swiftly on the Trump administration’s agenda, even as the department faces pressure to move faster on overdue contract payments to farmers and partner organizations.
In a speech at the USDA’s annual outlook forum in Arlington, Virginia, Rollins cited the agency’s quick action to stem the avian flu outbreak and rush billions of dollars in disaster-related payments to farmers hit by adverse weather, the front-and-center priorities in her first two weeks on the job.
Telling the crowd of USDA employees, industry and policy groups that she’s working at “lighting speed” on the agenda, Rollins added, “We call it Trump speed.”
Two weeks into the job, Rollins is juggling the implementation of new policies along with sweeping reductions in staff — some already done, and others to come — and promising the eventual relocation of some offices away from the nation’s capital.
