Caroline Gleich found herself in rehab at the age of 13 after turning to drugs and alcohol to relieve her depression and anxiety.
Years later, Gleich said she discovered a far better remedy: skiing and climbing on public lands.
“I can say with confidence that the outdoors saved me,” Gleich told a congressional panel in 2020.
It has become a consistent message for Gleich, a 38-year-old professional ski mountaineer and climate activist who’s now making outdoor recreation a top issue in her unlikely bid to win an open Senate seat in Utah.
