The Edison Electric Institute’s new president announced a slate of hires Thursday.

The Edison Electric Institute has brought on a former Interior Department official and aide to then-House Speaker Paul Ryan to be its top lobbyist.

Kiel Weaver will be the electric utility association’s chief advocacy officer under EEI President Drew Maloney, who took over the group’s helm last month.

Weaver was most recently director of environmental policy at NextEra Energy, a Florida-based electric utility holding company. His past work includes being a water policy official at the Interior Department during President Donald Trump’s first term, working on Interior’s transition team for Trump’s second term and an environmental adviser to Ryan (R-Wis.).
