One of California’s last eight remaining gasoline-producing oil refineries is going to begin idling its processing units next month.
What happened: After months of speculation about if, and when, Valero would follow through with shuttering its Northern California refinery, the company published its closure plans Tuesday.
After idling its processing units in February, the refinery will continue to produce gasoline as it works through its inventories, according to Valero. It expects most refining process units to be properly idled by April.
The company will continue importing gasoline to the Bay Area in the “near term” to fulfill its contractual obligations.
