Greenhouse gas emissions aren’t vice presidential candidate JD Vance’s top issue, but he is worried about the environment and how it might be impacting public health, he told a crowd in Detroit on Tuesday.
The Ohio Republican senator — who’s stumped frequently in Michigan in recent weeks — responded to a question Tuesday about his message to voters who are concerned about climate change and the environment. Vance’s running mate, former President Donald Trump, has called climate change a hoax and has vowed to repeal the Biden administration’s signature climate policies if reelected.
“I would be lying to you if I told you that carbon emissions was my No. 1 issue,” Vance said. “It’s not.”
“But if your No. 1 issue is carbon emissions, look at the two countries that have emitted the most carbon in the last 20, 30 years. It’s China, and it’s India. Make more stuff in the United States of America. That’s how you make sure we have clean air and clean water,” he said.
