EPA is on the hunt for another top official to help lead a national office that is paramount to the Biden administration’s push to aid underserved communities.
This month, the agency opened up a senior position in the Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights. The job ad, which was also shared on an EPA email listserv on Friday, is for deputy assistant administrator for program operations in that office.
The environmental justice and civil rights office, created by Administrator Michael Regan in 2022, manages billions of dollars in relief and fights injustices suffered by communities, often of color and low income, sitting on the fence line of major industrial sites. The office, however, has struggled with staffing, as top officials have come and gone, and still lacks a Senate-confirmed leader.
As part of the office’s leadership team, the deputy assistant administrator role will share “in all phases of work supervising and managing” the office alongside other senior aides there, according to the job ad.
