Buoyed by a recent $2.5 million donation from former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, a group fighting to maintain Washington state’s new carbon market has nearly 10 times as much money as a group trying to repeal it.

The June 27 donation by Ballmer and his wife, Connie, is the largest contribution to the coalition opposing a November ballot measure that would eliminate the state’s cap-and-trade style program.

The coalition had about $8 million available to spend, according to a recent campaign finance report.
