The Trump administration is considering whether to consolidate the regional offices of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, prompting a dozen senators to warn against the move in a letter Wednesday.
The 12 lawmakers from New England, including Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, the only Republican, told President Donald Trump they had heard “reports” that the White House might close FEMA’s regional office in Boston.
“We sincerely hope these reports are untrue and that you will reject any attempt to consolidate FEMA regional offices,” the senators wrote. “FEMA regional offices provide critical, on-the-ground assistance to disaster-affected communities.”
FEMA has 10 regional offices that each oversee a handful of states.
