A small wildfire broke out in Zion National Park earlier this week in southern Utah, closing trails and roads as it burned through 25 acres of the popular tourist destination.
Caused by lightning strike, the fire was reported to park staff midday Tuesday, according to a National Park Service news release posted Wednesday.
NPS wildland firefighters and partners conducted water drops by helicopter. Twenty-five firefighters were on location, according to the agency.
Zion is one of the busiest national parks during October, with more than half-a-million visitors in October of last year, according to NPS data compiled by the National Parks Conservation Association.
