Energy Secretary Chris Wright arrived in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday to kick off his first official international trip as the energy industry worries about teetering oil prices.
Wright said in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday that his visit to the Middle East will focus on investments those countries may make in the United States. The Department of Energy said Wednesday that Wright is also set to visit Saudi Arabia and Qatar during his trip.
“I’m visiting some critical allies for the United States that we want to strengthen relationships with, and most importantly, perhaps, all of the three nations I’m visiting are all very keen to make very large investments into the United States … measured in the hundreds of billions of dollars a year,” Wright said.
Wright did not specify what those investments may look like, but officials with a UAE state oil company said at an energy conference in March that their new investing arm would make large investments in the U.S. this year.
