Energy Secretary Chris Wright defended the contrarian climate science report his department published in July, saying it contained only a single disputed fact after it drew criticism from leading scientific institutions.

Scientists have roundly criticized the DOE Climate Working Group that Wright convened for missteps in its report ranging from relying on biased researchers to misrepresenting studies and cherry-picking data. They said that process yielded a flawed report that disregarded established findings that show rising greenhouse gases have contributed to extremes that harm life, property and the economy.

“There is no disagreement with what’s in the report. It’s just either changing the topic to models or what the future might bring,” Wright said during a press conference in New York City. “If the data and what we’ve said is wrong — as I read in countless newspaper articles, it’s discredited data — what in the climate report is wrong?”

At a separate event hosted by The New York Times, Wright described the scientists who publicly rebuked the DOE report as “activists.”
