Energy Secretary Chris Wright privately told House Republicans on Tuesday that gasoline prices will eventually decline, despite continued volatility in global energy markets.

Wright, who is slated to testify Wednesday before the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, delivered his message during a closed-door GOP meet-and-greet Tuesday morning, according to three people in the room.

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), who spoke with Wright, said the Energy secretary worked to reassure lawmakers. Carter said Republicans were “very confident” fuel prices would come down despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
