Yosemite National Park visitors would rely on a daily reservation system under a proposed visitor management plan unveiled Wednesday.
Citing the need to cope with ever-growing crowds, Yosemite officials propose a reservation system that would allow visitors to come and go over a three-day period.
“We know that the best time for many visitors to come to the park is during the summer season when the weather is optimal for outdoor adventures,” Yosemite Superintendent Cicely Muldoon said in a statement, adding that “we want to make sure that everyone gets a chance to enjoy the park and stay safe, and not suffer through endless traffic jams and long waits.”
A proposed “peak hours” period would be between 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. Visitors with all-day reservations could enter the park at any time during these hours. Visitors with afternoon reservations could enter the park any time after noon.
