EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin moved Thursday to take control over the agency’s top career officials.
In a memo sent to senior leadership and obtained by POLITICO, Zeldin terminated all members of the two boards that select and oversee members of the Senior Executive Service, saying their membership will be “restructured.”
The move comes in response to an Inauguration Day memo from President Donald Trump ordering that such boards be reconstituted to hand control to political officials.
“Because SES officials wield significant governmental authority, they must serve at the pleasure of the President,” the Jan. 20 presidential memo states.
