The late Arizona Rep. Raúl Grijalva’s daughter, Adelita Grijalva, won the Democratic primary Tuesday in the special election to succeed him.

The victory in the heavily Democratic southern Arizona district nearly guarantees that the younger Grijalva, a former member of the Pima County Board of Supervisors, will go to Congress following the September general race.

She easily beat a handful of challengers, including former state lawmaker Daniel Hernández Jr. and Deja Foxx, a Gen Z progressive influencer. The Associated Press called the race Tuesday night with Grijalva ahead by roughly 20,000 votes.
