The lead developer of the Alaska LNG project announced Monday it has signed an agreement with ConocoPhillips to supply natural gas to its mammoth pipeline project.
Glenfarne Group, the majority owner of Alaska LNG, said the contract for gas from Alaska’s North Slope will allow the company to support a final investment decision on the project’s initial phase, which involves building the majority of the 807-mile gas pipeline to help supply the state with gas. Glenfarne plans a second stage that would have the pipeline ultimately reach an export terminal near Nikiski, Alaska, to supply Asian countries with liquefied natural gas.
The supply agreement with ConocoPhillips is the third one that Glenfarne has inked with major North Slope producers, the company said. The others are with Exxon Mobil and Hilcorp Alaska.
A spokesperson for Glenfarne did not immediately say when the company plans to reach a final investment decision on the project’s first phase.
