The Bureau of Land Management is reorganizing its top career post, breaking it up into two parts by adding a new deputy director’s position that will oversee the bureau’s state offices.

The leadership splits the deputy director of operations post, which is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the bureau’s 10,000 employees, into two deputy directors positions.

Mike Nedd, who has served as deputy director of operations since early 2019, will be reassigned as deputy director of programs and administration, according to the plan BLM announced Wednesday. Nedd’s deputy director’s post will oversee BLM’s headquarters offices, including the development of the bureau’s annual budget request, the Office of Law Enforcement and Security, the Fire and Aviation Department and BLM’s seven directorates.
