Senate Environment and Public Works Chair Shelley Moore Capito said Wednesday she aims to attach a surface transportation extension to a stopgap government spending bill.
Congress faces two prominent Sept. 30 deadlines: to reauthorize expiring highway and transit programs and to fund the federal government.
Capito (R-W.Va.), who is also a senior appropriator, said earlier this week that EPW has been working to draft a surface extension.

Asked by POLITICO in an interview Wednesday how long it would run, Capito said she would have it “follow” the “Dec. 11 date” for the stopgap funding legislation, known as a continuing resolution. She confirmed in response to a follow-up question that the extension would go through Dec. 11.
