The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee plans to vote this week on a top Interior Department nominee.
The committee is scheduled to vote Wednesday on Kevin Lilly to be assistant secretary for fish and wildlife. Lilly — who does not have a background in public lands or wildlife management — has been serving as the acting assistant secretary for roughly a year.
Lilly is an investment manager whose experience includes chairing Texas’ Alcoholic Beverage Commission and serving as a commanding officer in the Texas State Guard. He will help oversee the Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service.
During confirmation hearings last month, he sparred with Democrats over renovations to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, the administration’s removal of timed entry tickets at popular national parks and a freeze on multimillion dollar grant disbursals from the National Park Service and the Fish and Wildlife Service.
