The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee voted along party lines Wednesday to approve a key Trump administration nominee to help oversee public lands and national parks.
The panel voted 10-9 for Kevin Lilly to become assistant Interior secretary for fish and wildlife. No Democrats voted in favor of the former investment manager from Texas.
Lilly has been serving in an acting capacity for roughly a year. Environmental groups have criticized him for lacking a background in public lands or wildlife management.

Before joining the Trump administration, Lilly was chair of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. His role oversees the Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service.
