Mountain Valley pipeline contractor Precision Pipeline is contesting a Virginia citation over a November incident that sent an injured worker to the hospital.

The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry issued a violation notice last month to Wisconsin-based Precision Pipeline — along with a proposed $15,375 fine — after a stone struck an employee near Elliston in southwestern Virginia.

The worker was evaluating a protective wall made of wooden timbers when a “stone started rolling down the slope” and either bounced over the wall or “rolled around the wall entirely” before hitting the employee, according to a copy of the document obtained by E&E News.

Developers of the Mountain Valley pipeline have asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for permission to place the pipeline in service as soon as this month, although the independent federal agency hasn’t indicated when it will make a decision.
