DOE, union in ‘active’ talks on telework

The Department of Energy has come under congressional scrutiny over its use — or lack of use — of Washington office space.

The Department of Energy and its headquarters union are in ongoing negotiations over telework, as federal employees brace for the incoming Trump administration, which is expected to push for in-person work five days a week.

Chapters with the National Treasury Employees Union have been in talks with the department since last year after DOE updated its policies on working outside the office.

A DOE spokesperson said the department issued updated policy documents in October and December 2023 on its telework and remote work program.

“Since then, DOE and NTEU have been in engaged on this matter with briefings and exchanging of proposals,” the DOE spokesperson said. “The negotiations between DOE and NTEU to implement the 2023 policy documents remain active.”
