Former EPA general counsel heads to new law firm

Matt Leopold, the agency’s top lawyer for almost three years, has joined Holland & Knight.

Matt Leopold, who served as EPA general counsel from 2018 to 2020, has joined Holland & Knight, the firm announced Tuesday. He will be a partner and co-chair of the firm’s national environmental team in Washington.

Rich Gold, who heads Holland & Knight’s public policy and regulation group, said in a statement that Leopold’s hire “marks a significant step forward for our environmental practice nationwide.”

“His significant practice and insights into the Trump Administration environmental policy will allow us to offer clients strong representation in the federal regulatory processes occurring now and in the future,” Gold said.

Leopold said in a statement Holland & Knight has “an incredibly experienced environmental team that I’m proud to join.”
