Senate Democrats and Republicans are crafting a deal that could see many of President Donald Trump’s pending nominees confirmed in the coming days.
The chamber was supposed to leave for recess Friday but President Donald Trump and Majority Leader John Thune are adamant about reducing a nominee backlog. That could keep lawmakers on Capitol Hill into the weekend and beyond.
“We’re staying here not because of us but because John Thune wants us to stay,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said when asked about the deliberations.
But Thune displayed a chart on the floor to illustrate how the second Trump administration is the first in recent history not to see any civilian nominees confirmed by voice vote.
