Republican Rep. Pete Stauber of Minnesota, a senior member of the Natural Resources Committee, reintroduced legislation Wednesday to reverse Biden administration mining restrictions in his home state.

Stauber’s “Superior National Forest Restoration Act” would scrap an order the Biden administration issued in January of 2023, which withdrew 225,504 acres in the Superior National Forest from new mining. The bill would also restore mineral leases for Twin Metals, a company angling to develop a site in the region.

“With Donald Trump back in the White House and Republicans in control of both Chambers of Congress, we are well positioned to reverse the damage done by President [Joe] Biden and turn Minnesota into a critical mineral powerhouse,” Stauber said in a statement.
