President Donald Trump has picked a lobbyist for private weather data companies to serve in a senior position at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Trump on Wednesday nominated Taylor Jordan as an assistant Secretary of Commerce, which oversees NOAA. Jordan served as the senior policy adviser at NOAA in the first Trump administration and has been a principal at the Innovative Federal Strategies lobbying shop over the past few years, including for private weather companies.
Jordan would serve under Neil Jacobs, who Trump nominated to lead NOAA. Both appointments require Senate confirmation.
Federal lobbying disclosures show Jordan’s clients have included a range of artificial intelligence, weather and satellite companies, including AccuWeather; PlanetiQ, a commercial weather data company; the SmallSat Alliance, a group of small satellite manufacturers; MeetKai, an AI company; and Ideanomics, a commercial EV support company.
