The House Natural Resources Committee advanced more than half-a-dozen bills Wednesday ahead of the chamber’s summer recess.
Bills sent to the floor include Hawaii Democratic Rep. Ed Case’s H.R. 4219, the National Wildlife Refuge System Invasive Species Strike Team Act. The bill’s aim is to control invasive species at wildlife refuges via “prevention, biosecurity, early detection, and rapid response” methods.
A bill from Rep. Nick Begich (R-Alaska), the Archie Cavanaugh Migratory Bird Treaty Amendment Act, H.R. 6021, aims to exempt Alaska Native handicrafts that contain parts of migratory birds from a series of treaties with Great Britain, Mexico, Japan and Russia, which aim to protect the itinerant birds.
H.R. 4931 from Rep. Greg Murphy (R-N.C.), which the committee also advanced, would make it easier for the National Park Service to extend some long-term leases without a new bidding process.
