President Joe Biden, a self-proclaimed “car guy,” will travel to Detroit’s annual auto show next week to tout his administration’s electric vehicle policies, the White House announced today.
The president is slated to attend the auto show next Wednesday, the day the event kicks off. He plans to “highlight the electric vehicle manufacturing boom in America thanks to his economic plan,” the White House said in a statement.
Biden is also planning to hold a White House celebration next Tuesday to commemorate last month’s passage of a sweeping bill that includes nearly $370 billion in climate and clean energy spending.
That legislation, which Democrats dubbed the Inflation Reduction Act, expands tax credits available to EV buyers (Climatewire, Aug. 19).
The White House announcement that Biden will attend the North American International Auto Show comes after the president made a verbal commitment to attend earlier this month. “I’ll be there,” Biden said during a White House event on Friday.
“I’m a car guy. As you kind of noticed.”
