President Joe Biden is meeting with his Kenyan counterpart, William Ruto, in an anticipated state visit Thursday that could strengthen relations with a country that’s trying to champion the benefits of clean energy in Africa.

For Ruto, that could lead to many of the same benefits being pursued by Biden: less pollution, more renewable energy and new jobs.

“A big part of Ruto’s ask and a big part of what the Americans are going to be able to offer Ruto on this trip is support for Ruto’s climate agenda in Africa because it aligns with what the Americans want to achieve on climate too,” said Gyude Moore, a senior policy fellow at the Center for Global Development and Liberia’s former minister of public works.
