The department has gone after renewables with gusto this summer — especially wind, President Donald Trump’s least favorite energy source.

The Trump administration has taken multiple actions to stifle wind energy projects in recent weeks, including a series of high-profile orders from the Interior Department.

The orders exclude some areas from wind leasing, halt most spending on renewable permitting, require high-level approval for any actions on renewable projects and instruct agencies to root out any preferences for wind and solar in federal rules.

“For too long, massive and unreliable wind energy projects have consumed our federal lands while offering intermittent power,” said Aubrie Spady, a spokesperson for Interior, in a video posted Friday. “That ends now.”
