Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse will deliver his 300th speech on climate change on the Senate floor Wednesday, marking a new milestone in a series that has run for 13 years.
The Rhode Island Democrat also released a video retrospective ahead of the speech, calling the moment “bittersweet” for what he has not achieved.
“On the one hand, I shouldn’t have to have given three hundred speeches. We should have solved this by now,” he says. “And so, the 300th speech is a confession of failure.”
On the other hand, he says, “I’m a persistent sun of a gun,” and says he hopes he’s moved the debate in a positive direction.
