The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will hold a hearing Wednesday aimed at boosting carbon capture, utilization and storage projects, long an area of bipartisan agreement.

It will be one of the first public opportunities for Chair Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and ranking member Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) to engage in a policy discussion about a topic they are both interested in.

The committee will explore the implementation of the Utilizing Significant Emissions with Innovative Technologies (USE IT) Act, which became law in 2020.

Among other provisions, USE IT directed the White House Council on Environmental Quality to create guidance aimed at speeding up the development of carbon capture and storage facilities, as well as pipelines that carry carbon dioxide.
