The House Energy and Commerce Committee will vote on legislation this week to make sure all cars sold in the United States can play AM radio channels.
H.R. 979, the “AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act,” sponsored by Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.) and ranking member Frank Pallone (D-N.J.), has almost 300 co-sponsors.
The legislation is in response to some automakers wanting to move away from AM radio. Electric vehicle manufacturers in particular have expressed concern about interference.
The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee approved a companion, S. 315, from Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Commerce Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas), earlier this year.
