The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will question senior leaders at the Army Corps of Engineers on Wednesday as lawmakers weigh the Trump administration’s proposed budget cuts to the agency.
The hearing is the second on Capitol Hill this month featuring Adam Telle, assistant secretary of the Army for civil works who oversees the Army Corps, and William Graham Jr., the agency’s chief of engineers.
During the prior hearing last week before a House committee, Telle in particular faced tough questions from Democrats over funding for water infrastructure projects and a migrant detention center in the Everglades, among other issues. A former Republican Hill staffer, Telle was confirmed for the job last month.
Republicans and Democrats are likely to ask about specific studies and projects in their states to reduce flooding, improve river navigation and restore wetlands that were authorized by recent Water Resources Development Acts, which have historically passed on a bipartisan basis.
