Interior Department employees were greeted at the start of their workweek Monday with a gentle reminder from Interior Secretary Doug Burgum that flexible telework policies in place the last several years have come to an end.

Burgum’s all-staff email, titled “Welcome Back to the Office,” noted that flexible telework ended at the Interior Department on Sunday, a deadline set last month to comply with President Donald Trump’s order ending remote work for federal employees.

“As everyone returns to the office full-time, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for all your hard work and dedication,” Burgum wrote.

While he acknowledged that the return-to-office policy “may bring some adjustments,” he noted that “it is also an exciting opportunity to reconnect, collaborate, and continue to strengthen our efforts as one team to serve the American people.”
