TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Speakers at a rally Monday on the historic Capitol steps called on Gov. Ron DeSantis to block Florida’s upcoming bear hunt, the first in more than a decade.

Details: More than 100 people attended the rally organized by the Sierra Club state chapter, chanting “Gov. DeSantis — stop the hunt.”

“Gov. DeSantis, do the right thing,” said Bobbie Lee Davenport of the Environmental Confederation of Southwest Florida. “The science is not there. The conservation objectives are not there. This is pandering to special interests plain and simple. This is a trophy hunt — stop it.”
