The Biden administration is redoubling its effort to clean up transportation from the freight industry, announcing a plan to cut emissions and releasing $1.5 billion to promote clean trucks and electric vehicles.

The “national goal” for the freight industry, which the White House announced Wednesday, builds on the administration’s previous goals of eliminating climate-warming pollution from the electricity sector by 2035 and making the transportation sector carbon-neutral by 2050.

As part of the program, EPA announced a nearly $1 billion program to replace older, high-polluting school buses and heavy-duty trucks. The Department of Transportation also announced the first round of funds in a $400 million grant program to reduce truck emissions at ports, and $72 million for an electric truck charging program.
