The House Foreign Affairs Committee will vote on legislation that would impose increased oil and gas sanctions on Iran.

H.R. 1422, the “Enhanced Iran Sanctions Act,” from Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.), would push people and entities that engage in the processing, export or sale of Iranian oil.

Those secondary entities could be banks, insurance providers, flagging registries, pipeline developers and facilities for liquefied natural gas.

Lawmakers passed legislation last year to pressure the Biden administration to make it harder for Iran to sell its oil. It followed the attack on Israel by Iran-backed militants.
