TALLAHASSEE, Florida — A state Senate Republican leader Wednesday boosted a bill supporters say would help rein in utilities amid a requested Florida Power & Light rate increase.

Details: State Sen. Jennifer Bradley (R-Fleming Island) told the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries she chairs that she is supporting the bill after helping rewrite portions of it with the sponsor, state Sen. Don Gaetz (R-Crestview).

Bradley said the bill was being amended to require the Public Service Commission to cite evidence supporting its decisions. She also said the bill now would require that PSC-approved costly storm protection plans be prudent and reasonable.

“We are talking about billions of dollars that get passed on to our ratepayers,” Bradley said.
