Congressional Republicans working to authorize year-round sales of E15 biofuels have blown past self-imposed deadlines for releasing a compromise bill and having it considered on the House floor.
But members of the House’s Rural Domestic Energy Council say they are on the brink of finalizing legislative language, and they are optimistic Republican leaders will grant them a vote sometime next month.
The group’s members, appointed by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), have been working for several weeks to land an agreement between lawmakers representing agriculture interests and those representing small and midsize oil refiners.
“It’s ridiculous that it’s taken this long. We should’ve done this five years ago,” said Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.), a member of the council.
