Bipartisan lawmakers are relaunching a legislative push to block imports of critical minerals from Russia, including platinum, palladium and copper.

Republican Sens. Steve Daines and Tim Sheehy of Montana joined Democratic Sens. Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan to float the “Stop Russian Market Manipulation Act,” which would block imports of eight metals and minerals.

Daines introduced similar legislation last year with Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska after the international mining company Sibanye-Stillwater announced it was laying off more than 700 workers at its mines in Montana because of cratering prices, which it blamed on “Russian dumping” and weak tax incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act.
