A group of lawmakers released legislation Monday to extend and bolster a program meant to protect pollinators.

The “Roadside Pollinator Program Amendments Act” would reauthorize an effort from the Biden-era bipartisan infrastructure law to increase the number of pollinator plants along roads and highways.

The legislation would renew the program until 2031. It would also allow nonprofits to participate and revise application and funding processes.

“Monarchs and pollinators are in grave danger, and we must do everything we can to help them thrive,” said Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), one of the bill’s sponsors.
