The results of an oil and gas lease sale in Alaska’s Cook Inlet will be announced on March 4, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management said Friday.
The sale is set to be the first of numerous fossil fuel lease sales scheduled in Alaska because of last year’s Republican megalaw, which requires six in Cook Inlet through 2032.
BOEM will offer for bid all available unleased areas within the more than 1-million-acre outer continental shelf area of the inlet, according to lease details published Monday in the Federal Register.
“Regular and predictable federal leasing is the minimum standard for maintaining domestic energy production,” acting BOEM Director Matt Giacona said Friday in a statement. “Energy security is national security, and this sale reflects a clear, congressionally mandated path forward for Cook Inlet leasing.”
