Marian Abdou stepped down from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities on Wednesday, leaving the five-seat board with just three members at a crucial time for state energy policy.

At the end of a regular board meeting, Abdou said she was leaving for family reasons, which includes four young children. Abdou, a Republican who has been called nonpolitical, joined the board two years ago. The board now has two Democrats and one Republican.

“Due to some recent changes, I need to take a step back and tend to my family,” Abdou said.
