The prime minister must “stand up to President Trump” when he visits the U.K. this week, researchers demanded.

More than 150 researchers are urging British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to challenge President Donald Trump’s “reckless” disregard for climate change during his state visit to the U.K. this week.

The request comes ahead of a meeting between the two leaders Thursday, where they’re expected to sign an agreement to boost nuclear power projects. It also comes as the Trump administration dismantles regulations aimed at limiting planet-warming pollution; disputes established climate science; and attacks clean energy projects in favor of boosting the output of oil, gas and coal.

“There is not a single scientific academy in the world that rejects the evidence that climate change is happening and is driven by human activities, primarily the burning of fossil fuels,” 175 researchers at British universities and institutions argue in a letter sent to Starmer on Wednesday.

“It is critically important that you and your Government stand up to President Trump and challenge him about his dangerous and irresponsible approach to climate change,” says the letter, which was organized by Bob Ward, policy and communications director at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment. Signatories includes 17 members of the U.K.’s national academies and a number of climate and environmental scientists.
