Charlie Dankert, a former staffer under Interior Secretary Doug Burgum who also worked in the White House and at EPA during President Donald Trump’s first stint in office, has landed at the Energy Department.

Dankert is now serving as deputy chief of staff for policy at the agency, according to documents viewed by POLITICO’s E&E News. DOE did not immediately respond when asked what Dankert’s focus will be.

Dankert most recently served as a top budget official in an acting capacity at the Interior Department before he was replaced by officials from Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency.

Dankert was replaced by Tyler Hassen, a DOGE staffer embedded at Interior who has been delegated authority as the acting assistant secretary for policy, management and budget, a role that Dankert was filling. Hassen previously led oil field services company Basin Energy.
